HOLIDAY — A 9-year-old Pasco County boy who was the subject of a Monday morning Amber Alert has been found safe and the man authorities accuse of abducting him is in custody, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
In a Facebook video, Sheriff Chris Nocco said deputies were called at 4:48 a.m. to the 4000 block of Sail Drive in Holiday. A woman had been “badly beaten” and left in the street, Nocco said.
The woman told deputies she’d been in a car with a friend, 50-year-old Haralampos Savopoulos, when the two got in an argument. The woman’s son, Michael Morris, was in the back seat, Nocco said. When Savopoulos threw the woman out of the car, he kept the boy in the back seat, the sheriff said.
“He makes a statement to the mother saying that the child is going to pay for what the mother did,” Nocco said.
After an Amber Alert and pleas from authorities for Savopoulos to release the boy, the Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook at 10:11 a.m. that Michael had been found and was safe. Seven minutes later, the Sheriff’s Office posted that Savopoulos was in custody.
It’s unclear whether Savopoulos has been charged with a crime and, if so, what charges he faces.
