Loveland’s Winter Holiday Council is now offering its 2020 cast pewter Christmas ornament, with proceeds to benefit the city’s holiday lights display.
The ornament, which was designed by Loveland artist Phylicia Mann, features a reindeer posed next to the words “2020,” “Merry Christmas” and “Loveland, Colorado,” and was named “Dash Away All” after Santa Claus’ command to his reindeer in the classic Christmas story of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Mann’s is the 33rd ornament manufactured by the council, which started producing the holiday keepsakes in 1990. Along with annual ornaments, two special-edition ornaments were made to commemorate the council’s 25th anniversary and benefit victims of the High Park Fire.
Council president Scott Clinebell said the council is marketing the ornaments earlier in the year than normal to give itself more time to sell inventory that it might have otherwise sold at canceled events such as Sculpture in the Park.
“There’s going to be fewer retail opportunities, but we know there are still going to be people interested in buying ornaments,” he said.
Sales will benefit the council’s displays around Foote Lagoon and south of Lake Loveland. In 2019, the council raised about $29,000 from ornament sales.
Clinebell also said the council is seeking proposals for installations at Foote Lagoon, where the council is focusing most of its resources after announcing it would not light up Dwayne Webster Veterans Park last year.
Artists interested in creating a lighted holiday display to be set up next to the lagoon can find more information at https://winterholidaycouncil.org/, along with info about purchasing the 2020 ornament.
Submissions must be made by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.
