Elks Recreation has cancelled the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and Parade–the first time the event has been cancelled in its 77-year history–and has announced a holiday drive-through event in its place.
Rodeo and parade-related events like the Elks Team Roping, Mini Rodeo Qualifier, Beard-A-Reno, and the always popular Mutton Bustin’ will be canceled as well. The Elks Rodeo Queen contest will continue.
Elks Recreation officials announced plans for “Christmas in the Country,” a holiday light experience to be held at the Elks Event Center. The drive-through event, presented in cooperation with the city of Santa Maria’s Recreation and Parks Department, will allow visitors to experience the holiday lights and displays presented by local businesses and families. There may also be opportunities to enjoy hot chocolate, candy canes, Christmas trees, and other holiday treats as health safety protocols permit.
Along with Christmas in the Country, Elks Recreation has introduced “Stuff the Stocking” to bring awareness to pediatric cancer. Proceeds will go to the Golden Circle of Champions program that is devoted to raising awareness of childhood cancer and provides financial support to families enduring childhood cancer.
