YOUNGSTOWN — Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Western Reserve Transit Authority will not roll out a Holiday Bus this fall.

Instead, WRTA will present a Holiday Lights campaign that will honor non-profit organizations in the Mahoning Valley.

Dean Harris, WRTA executive director, said in a news release there are many other organizations in Trumbull and Mahoning counties who help those in need all year long.

"For this holiday season, we wanted to turn the spotlight on those organizations," Harris said. "The Holiday Lights campaign is our way of honoring them and encouraging everyone to support their efforts.”

WRTA is encouraging Valley residents to suggest organizations they would like to see recognized by the Holiday Lights campaign. The WRTA website contains a nomination form.

Organizations selected for the WRTA 2020 Holiday Lights Campaign will be notified prior to Thanksgiving.

Starting Thanksgiving week, signs highlighting various Valley non-profit organizations will begin appearing on the sides of selected WRTA buses serving Trumbull and Mahoning counties. Information about the featured organizations also will be on the WRTA website and on social media, with links to the organizations’ donations pages.

Selected organizations will receive a framed copy of their bus sign.
