The seventh annual World of Work Youth Expo will be online-only this year due to the pandemic, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas announced in a Wednesday news release.

From Oct. 19-23, students in grades 6-12 who live within the 19-county region will be able to connect virtually with area employers, training providers and nonprofits to explore future career options.

Virtual mock interviews will be available for students, and online panels will be presented by representatives from local industries. Additional content will be available for parents and educators, as well.

Registration for students, classrooms and schools is available at wfswct.org/wow2020. For information, contact Amelia.Reeves@workforcesystem.org or 325-795-4364.

Taylor County companies recognized for workplace safety

Texas Mutual Insurance Company recently announced that two companies in Taylor County had received its highest honor for workplace safety.

Texas Mutual represents approximately 70,000 companies in the state.

Day Nursery of Abilene named top nonprofit in city

The Day Nursey of Abilene, which provides services for almost 400 children each day, was recently named the Nonprofit of the Year by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.

The award was presented Sept. 20 at the chamber's annual membership banquet.

In a news release, Day Nursery of Abilene CEO Cynthia Pearson said that the nursey is critical to the economic development of Abilene.

"If parents can’t work, then it’s a vicious cycle for not only the families, but the respective businesses and their customers – both internal and external," Pearson said.

The Day Nursery of Abilene began operations in 1972. It opened its fourth site in January, in partnership with Hendrick Health System and Hardin-Simmons University.
