It’s very likely that the COVID-19 pandemic will cause you to celebrate the December holidays differently this year, but there’s still one local tradition you can count on: a festive feast prepared by a Colorado pro. Ordering full meals, desserts, cocktails, and whatever else you discover in the list below will not only bring joy to your table, but also help ensure that your favorite independent restaurants and artisans are still in business when we’re all ready to gather in person once again.

Ace Eat Serve

This year, you can make chef Thach Tran’s celebrated Peking duck feast the centerpiece of your holiday table. Reheat the ready-made meal at home according to Tran’s instructions, including the glorious whole duck; sides like mu shu crepes, veggie fried rice, green bean casserole, and saag paneer; and matcha tiramisu for dessert. Enhance your meal with a selection from the restaurant’s fantastic wine cellar and/or ask for a large-format cocktail or hot chocolate kit. Barolo Grill

Savor a Northern Italian-inspired holiday supper, wether your holiday is Hanukkah or Christmas. The restaurant’s Hanukkah meal package comes with your choice of braised duck or seared salmon with roasted potatoes and vegetables; fritto misto; Brussels sprouts salad with squash and golden raisins; and pistachio olive oil cake. Beast & Bottle and Coperta

Chef Paul C. Reilly’s bake-at-home Christmas Eve meal features a boneless beef rib roast from River Bear American Meats with horseradish-potato gratin, creamed kale with mushroom conserva, and butternut squash soufflé. Top that off with a stunning cookie plate from pastry chef Jodi Polson. Beckon has a limited number of heated greenhouse and covered outdoor patio seats available for small parties of up to four people for its Eve to Feast Supper on December 24 at 4 p.m. If you’d rather celebrate at home, you can sweeten the party with a little something from Beckon’s takeaway menu, such as gingerbread and chocolate bûche de nöel, seasonal cookies, and pretzel rolls or festive cocktails and bottles of wine, including glögg (Scandanavian mulled wine). Berkeley Donuts

Holiday-themed potato doughnuts are waiting for you at Berkeley Donuts on Tennyson Street, located inside Hops & Pie. Flavors of the season include sugar cookie (sourdough potato doughnut topped with sugar cookies); hazelnut pastry (cream-filled sourdough with Nutella glaze and toasted hazelnuts); peppermint bark (chocolate cake doughnut with white chocolate glaze and peppermint bark pieces); and, as of December 18, gingerbread (gingerbread glazed with Christmas sprinkles and gingerbread cookies). The Bindery

Chef-owner Linda Hampsten Fox drew inspiration from her experiences traveling around the world to write this year’s menu, offering a variety of handmade tamales, spinach-stuffed bone-in ribeye roasts, shepherd’s pies, holiday hams, and plenty of sides. Look to the Bindery’s bakery for a selection of house-made breads and desserts, including Sicilian orange crostata, mint chocolate pudding pie, raspberry linzer torte, white chocolate bûche de nöel, boxes of assorted cookies, and several kinds of bread loaves and rolls. Bits & Pieces con Cerveza Food Truck 

Inspired by his New Mexico upbringing, a holiday meal for eight people from chef Orlando Benavidez comes with Hatch green chile and cheese tamales; red chile pork tamales; green chile pork pozole; chile Colorado con carne y papas; frijoles charros (stewed pinto beans); and Mexican red rice. Blanchard Family Wines

Bid farewell to 2021 with a virtual New Year’s Eve celebration flowing with Colorado wine. For the first time in its 30-year history, the Boulder County Farmers Market is going virtual for the holidays. Head to the online shopping hub to enliven your gift-giving and holiday cooking with locally-sourced items like farm-fresh produce and meats, tamales, ice cream, snacks, cheeses, condiments, pies, and plenty more. Cafe Aion

Whip up a Mediterranean classic in your own kitchen with Cafe Aion’s paella-at-home kit. Edible Beats

The culinary pros behind Edible Beats restaurants (Root Down, Linger, El Five, and others) are offering ready-to-serve dinners for groups of all sizes. Choose from braised short rib, roasted Tender Belly spiral ham, or Barber’s Foods all-natural turkey two ways (roasted turkey breast and confit thigh/leg), complemented by sides such as marble rye stuffing, roasted beet and chevre salad, heirloom bean soup, and Yukon potato and cauliflower mash. Chefs Eduardo Valle Lobo and Kelly Jeun are offering a condensed Feast of the Seven Fishes supper this year, allowing customers to wade into the waters of the traditional Italian meal from the comfort of home. With a prepped meal kit and video guidance, diners will prepare a Tuscan fish stew called filone bread with cacciucco; a roasted whole branzino on a bed of potatoes, olives, fennel, and lemon; and a classic panettone for dessert. While Jax Fish House isn’t hosting its 10th annual Feast of the Seven Fishes Christmas Eve bash in person this year, the restaurant is offering a six-course, finish-at-home meal for two. Menu highlights include a frutti di mare antipasti with squid, shrimp, octopus, and bay scallops; salt-baked Alamosa bass; sweet potato gnocchi; and butterscotch budino with amaro caramel. Jill’s Restaurant & Bistro

Two holiday meal options await at Jill’s Restaurant & Bistro inside the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, including an excellent vegan selection. Opt for the spread with crab- and artichoke-stuffed cremini mushrooms; winter salad; sous vide prime rib, pineapple-glazed ham, or herb-roasted turkey; and spice cake with citrus cream cheese frosting. Local Jones 

Chef Josh Sutcliff’s Christmas dinner comes with prime rib, horseradish cream and Yorkshire pudding, all paired with sautéed kale, Caesar salad, and mashed potatoes. Round out the meal with chocolate whoopie pies with marshmallow crème filling for dessert. Lou’s Italian Specialties

A build-your-own holiday meal from Lou’s translates to a hearty menu full of comforting Italian-style fare. Mici’s Handcrafted Italian

Mici’s is making whole lasagnas with Tuscan meat sauce, a Micelis family recipe that’s been passed down three generations. The trays are available ready-to-reheat or uncooked and can be stored for up to three days in the refrigerator. The Texas barbecue pros at Post Oak in Berkeley are preparing smoked masterpieces for the holidays, including ready-to-carve whole turkey breasts, hams, and whole prime briskets, and brisket burnt ends. Restaurant Olivia 

Restaurant Olivia is dishing out pies galore this year, with savory options such as beef bourguignon and Christmas ham and sweeter renditions like caramel apple crisp, malted chocolate pecan, brown butter pumpkin, and blackberry cream cheese tart. Rioja

This year, Rosenberg’s famous “Jewish Christmas” Chinese food menu is available for takeout from its Stanley Marketplace location. Boulder’s A Spice of Life has several curated meal packages ranging from casual to upscale. Chef Jeff Stoneking, formerly of ChoLon, has teamed up with Steuben’s to create a seven-course, ready-to-reheat holiday feast. The menu includes Tender Belly ham, Parker House rolls, shaved Brussels sprout salad, roasted baby potatoes, creamed greens, candied carrots, and sticky toffee pudding with house made vanilla bean ice cream. Stoic & Genuine

At Jennifer Jasinski’s Union Station seafood restaurant, three-course holiday meals are available for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Choose from lobster thermidor, mushroom ravioli, and surf-and-turf with New York strip-wrapped ahi tuna ravioli, to be paired with wilted kale and roasted acorn squash sides and Hoosier sugar cream pie or chocolate cake for dessert. Table 6 is serving a three-course prix-fixe New Year’s Eve dinner, available for dine-in on the restaurant’s outdoor patio or for curbside pick-up. Start with crab cakes with roasted red pepper remoulade and celery heart salad, then savor osso bucco with creamy polenta and wilted Swiss chard.
