FREEHOLD, NJ— A Monmouth County corrections officer faces charges in connection with the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Marissa Suarez was arrested on January 22, charged with unlawfully entering restricted grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct after the FBI was provided with information that allegedly placed her in the Capitol building during the attack, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

Suarez, who is reported to have resigned following her arrest, has been a probationary corrections officer since 2019. She was scheduled to work on January 6 at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, but used an emergency holiday and did not report to work, the complaint said.

According to an affidavit from an FBI special agent handling the investigation, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office informed the FBI that the Union Beach Police Department received a report from a witness about Suarez’s activities at the Capitol, including several video clips that Suarez shared with the witness.

Another woman, Patricia Todisco, was identified by authorities in those videos, and she also has been charged unlawfully entering restricted grounds, and violent entry and disorderly conduct, the complaint said.

Security footage from the U.S. Capitol also captured images of both Suarez and Todisco at the Capitol protest, specifically showing them allegedly entering the Senate wing door entrance of the Capitol building at or about 3:06 p.m. on January 6, the complaint said.

In addition to the videos and the security footage, text messages sent from Suarez’s cell phone further establish both women were inside the U.S. Capitol building during the demonstrations, the complaint added.

During court appearances on January 22, Suarez and Todisco were released on $10,000 bail.

The women’s arrests come several days after another Monmouth County resident — Timothy Hale-Cusanelli of Colts Neck — was charged in connection with the riots inside the Capitol building.
