LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Governor Andy Beshear announced new COVID-19 numbers for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and January 2.
1,470 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Kentucky on Saturday. The state total now stands at 273,971 cases. The state’s positivity rate is now up to 10.79%. Governor Beshear said the elevated positivity rate is likely due to some labs and testing sites closed over the holiday.
“We will wait and watch closely over the coming days and weeks to gauge the impact the holidays may have had on our recent success in slowing new case growth,” said Gov. Beshear
The state also reported 22 new deaths Saturday. That brings the total COVID-19 related deaths in Kentucky to 2,698.
Those reported lost to the virus Saturday include a 95-year-old woman from Anderson County; a 64-year-old man from Boyle County; a 97-year-old woman from Campbell County; a 69-year-old woman from Casey County; a 54-year-old man from Clinton County; a 71-year-old man from Fayette County; two men, ages 67, 90 and an 84-year-old woman from Harlan County; a 76-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man from Hopkins County; a 79-year-old woman from Jackson County; two women, ages 79, 90, and a 70-year-old man from Jefferson County; a 90-year-old woman from Jessamine County; an 84-year-old man from Laurel County; an 81-year-old woman from McCreary County; a 78-year-old man from Mason County; a 75-year-old man from Menifee County; an 82-year-old man from Pulaski County; and a 70-year-old woman from Russell County.
At least 1,671 Kentuckians are currently hospitalized, with 413 in the ICU and 216 on ventilators.
On Friday, New Year’s Day, 3,124 case of COVID-19 were reported. The positivity rate was at 10.32%.
Kentucky reported 14 COVID-19 deaths Friday.
Those reported lost to the virus Friday include a 56-year-old woman from Carroll County; an 81-year-old man from Gallatin County; a 69-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man from Graves County; a 54-year-old woman from Harlan County; two men, 76, 62, from Hopkins County; an 82-year-old man from Perry County; three woman, 91, 94, 99, from Pulaski County; a 96-year-old woman from Russell County; and two men, 82, 66, from Trimble County.
On Thursday, New Year’s Eve, 4,145 cases of COVID-19 were reported. The positivity rate was at 9.89%.
Kentucky reported 39 COVID-19 deaths Thursday.
Those reported lost to the virus Thursday include an 82-year-old man from Bell County; a 77-year-old man from Boone County; an 87-year-old man from Bullitt County; a 78-year-old man from Campbell County; a 63-year-old woman and 66-year-old man from Daviess County; a 53-year-old man from Floyd County; an 83-year-old man from Franklin County; a 62-year-old man from Grant County; a 71-year-old man from Harlan County; a 31-year-old man from Henderson County; an 87-year-old man from Jackson County; four woman, 73, 77, 80, 96 and two men, 72, 87, from Jefferson County; an 86-year-old woman from Johnson County; a 95-year-old woman from Kenton County; an 80-year-old man from Lewis County; a 92-year-old woman and an 88-year-old man from Livingston County; two women, 87, 98, and a 79-year-old man from Madison County; a 91-year-old woman from Mason County; an 87-year-old woman from Muhlenberg County; an 83-year-old woman from perry County; two women, 86, 89, from Pulaski County; a 90-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man from Russell County; a 60-year-old woman from Shelby County; an 81-year-old woman from Taylor County; two men, 62, 68, from Washington County; and a 59-year-old-woman from Whitley County.
“With more vaccines arriving in 2021, we have a new sense of hope but right now we must all continue to do our part to stop this virus, including wearing a mask and avoiding large in-person gatherings,” said Gov. Beshear.
