Patriots’ Day 2021 is Monday, April 19. The holiday commemorates the 246th anniversary of the opening battles of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord.

Patriots’ Day is a state holiday in Massachusetts, Maine (which was a part of the Bay State until the early 19th century) and Wisconsin. Starting in 2018, Patriots’ Day became a holiday in Connecticut. Then-Gov. Dannel Malloy signed a bill in 2017 establishing the unpaid state holiday.

Here is what’s open and what’s closed in Massachusetts, plus some details on related events, adjusted for safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

Commemorations

The Lexington Battle Reenactment is virtual this year. Events include “Patriots’ Day on Parade,” an online video presentation on LexMedia.org. See full a rundown of events at lexingtonma.gov/patriotsday.

Bradley International Airport

Bradley warns travelers that this is a high-traffic week because of school vacations. Some tips:

  • Prior to your departure for the airport, contact your airline to check the status of your flight. Flight information is also available at flybdl.org. Twitter users can tweet their flight number to @BDLFlightInfo to receive real-time flight information.
  • Familiarize yourself with the airport’s parking options by visiting parkbradley.com. Free shuttle service is provided from the surface lots.
  • Speed up the Transportation Security Administration screening process by reviewing guidelines ahead of time.
  • Have a valid ID and boarding pass readily available, and remove large electronics, including laptops, and liquids from carry-on baggage. Avoid overpacking your carry-on bag. Consider checking bags when feasible.
  • Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes must be 3.4 ounces or less and all containers must fit inside a single quart-size plastic bag and be placed in a bin for carry-on baggage screening. This includes sun block and tanning lotions.
  • Get live assistance by tweeting questions and comments to @AskTSA or via Facebook Messenger weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and weekends/holidays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can also reach the Contact Center at 866-289-9673.
  • The TSA Cares helpline is toll free at 855-787-2227.
