JASPER, Ind. — An Ohio woman has died after riding a rollercoaster at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari and returning to the station unresponsive.
Dubois County Coroner Katie Schuck identified the woman as Dawn R. Jankovic, 47, of Brunswick, Ohio.
According to a post on the theme park's Facebook page, Jankovic visited Holiday World in Santa Claus on Friday and was riding The Voyage when she became unconscious. Holiday World emergency medical technicians treated Jankovic before an ambulance transported her to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, where she died later that night.
"A full inspection of the roller coaster has been performed, and it was determined that the ride operated as it was intended to," Holiday World officials said in a social media post. But the "ride remained closed for the evening out of respect for the family."
Schuck said an autopsy has been completed and the results are pending notification of family members.
Holiday World opened for its 75th season less than one month ago on May 15.
