Peeps fans will have to wait another year before they can pick up pumpkin, snowman or heart-shaped treats at the holidays.

The Bethlehem-based Just Born Quality Confections recently announced it won’t be producing Peeps for the Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day so that preparations can be made for Easter of 2021.

Just Born said safety and production changes stemming from the coronavirus pandemic forced the company to its decision.

The company suspended production this spring as the coronavirus spread through Pennsylvania. Limited production resumed in mid-May, the company said, but with new protocols to protect employees' safety.

“This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies.

We look forward to offering our fun seasonal shapes and packaging at all major seasons again beginning with Halloween of 2021,” Just Born said in a statement. “We appreciate your interest in Just Born’s iconic candy brands, and we look forward to being a part of seasonal traditions again next year!”

Holiday shapes and packaging for the company’s other candies — Mike and Ike, and Hot Tamales — will also be missing from shelves this year, Just Born said.

Just Born has been in business since 1923.
